We continue our series of interviews about the INNOSOC project, this time with Ing. Martin Mičiak, PhD., from the Department of Management Theories at the Faculty of Management Science and Informatics, University of Žilina. In the project, he works as a researcher and is also part of the project management support team.
Cybersecurity and the importance of high-quality science
The main theme of the INNOSOC project is cybersecurity and finding ways to strengthen it in organisations. Martin Mičiak stresses that the project focuses mainly on open-source solutions, which make it possible to increase protection at a lower overall cost.
In his view, the quality of the scientific outputs is key to the project’s success:
- Publishing with renowned publishers and in indexed journals and databases.
- Raising the relevance and visibility of the project among the professional community and the general public.
- Emphasising the practical applicability of the results.
The challenge of the “research gap”
In the interview, Martin Mičiak also described how demanding scientific work is. He considers the research itself to be the hardest part – the ability to map a given field correctly and identify the so-called research gap. The goal is for every conference paper or article to bring something new and interesting that moves the topic of cybersecurity forward.
Connecting management, informatics and business
The INNOSOC project is unique in combining the academic and business environments. At the faculty, it represents an important collaboration between two departments:
- the Department of Management Theories
- the Department of Information Networks
This cooperation has allowed Martin Mičiak to connect the fields of management and informatics more deeply, broaden his horizons in cybersecurity and gain further valuable practical experience in project management.
